The Ashley Foundation has recently been awarded £75,000 by The Masonic Charitable Foundation. This generous grant will go towards the 3 years’ salary for our very own Mental Health Empowerment Officer.
The project aims are to: provide support and information to our Blackpool hostel residents experiencing mental distress; cultivate empowerment; promote improved choice and to increase residents’ control over events. It will also raise awareness and knowledge amongst other supported-housing professionals.
Good mental health and resilience are fundamental to everyone’s physical health, our relationships, our education, our training, our work and to achieving our potential. Good mental health is the foundation for wellbeing and the effective functioning of individuals and communities. It impacts on how individuals think, feel, communicate and understand. It enables us to manage our lives successfully and live to our full potential. Through promoting good mental health and early intervention we can help to prevent mental illness from developing and mitigate its effects.
Mental health problems can have a wide range of causes. It’s likely that for many people there is a combination of factors, although some people may be more deeply affected by certain things than others.
Following the award of the first-year grant of £25,000, The Ashley Foundation were invited to attend The Blackpool Group of Masonic Lodges & Chapters Charity Giving Night, held on Friday 27th April 2018 at Blackpool Masonic Hall.
This was an opportunity for all those charities supported by the various Masonic Lodges and Chapters over the last 12 months to give a short presentation about their charity, how the donation/grant will be applied and to also widen the knowledge of the charity to the other members of the Masonic Lodges and Chapters and the community.
The event was attended by Laura Cooper (Housing Services Manager) and Denise Boehme (Support Services Manager)
