Poplar House and the Salvation Army teamed up to take on Northumbria Police in a charity football match for the Bradley Lowery Foundation

On the 15th February 2022, Poplar House and the Salvation army teamed up to take on the Northumbria Police in a charity football match for the Bradley Lowery Foundation.

The match, which finished 5-0 to Northumbria Police, was played at Ford Quarry Hub and raised a fantastic £560 for the Bradley Lowery Foundation.

The Bradley Lowery Foundation was established in 2017 after Bradley sadly lost his fight Stage 4 High Risk Neuroblastoma. Our residents, alongside the Salvation Army, wanted to give something back to a charity close to our hearts. Bradley, who was six years old when he passed away, was a Sunderland supporter whose plight touched the hearts of the entire nation. He struck up a bond with current Sunderland striker Jermaine Defoe during his battle with cancer.

Neuroblastoma is a form of childhood cancer and affects children aged 5 and younger, although in rare cases can impact children slightly older. It develops from specialised nerve cells that are left behind from a baby’s development in the womb and is estimated to impact about 100 children each year in the UK. Bradley was diagnosed when he was just 18 months old.
